CCC (Courmayeur-Champex-Chamonix)

Courmayeur (start) / Chamonix (finish) · Courmayeur, Italy

About

The CCC has grown from being the "little sister of the UTMB" to becoming one of the most prestigious races in the world. The start line in the center of Courmayeur overflows with an atmosphere that only Italians know how to create. After the first kilometers, you will quickly climb to 2500m of altitude to enjoy an exceptional landscape, facing the Mont-Blanc and the Grandes Jorasses. The path to the Grand col Ferret invites you to cross into Switzerland, where you will enjoy the incomparable welcome of the volunteers of La Fouly, Champex and Trient. Once across the border in France, discover the authenticity of Vallorcine, before climbing up to Vallons des Chezerys, a true corner of paradise with a magnificent view over the Mont-Blanc chain. It is then time to push through and receive a hero's welcome across the finish line in the heart of Chamonix.

Why this race

  • CCC is part of UTMB Mont-Blanc week, the flagship UTMB World Series final event
  • Official site under montblanc.utmb.world
  • Globally followed, elite fields and lottery entry

If you like UTMB Mont-Blanc or OCC, you'll like this one.

Pack this

  • Waterproof jacket with taped seams and hood, plus waterproof overtrousers
  • Two headlamps with spare batteries for the night section
  • Reusable cup, 1L minimum water capacity, and survival blanket
  • Warm layers: long-sleeve base, hat, and gloves for cold high cols
  • Gels and real food for 20+ hours, about 60-90g carbs per hour

What you should know

  • UTMB mandatory gear is checked at bib pickup and can be spot-checked on course, so carry the full list.
  • Strict time barriers apply at aid stations like Champex-Lac, so know the cutoffs and pace for them.
  • Mild valley weather can turn to freezing wind, rain or snow on cols above 2500m, especially overnight.
  • Steep technical descents into Champex, Trient and Vallorcine punish quads, so poles are allowed and recommended.
  • Follow the course markings and stay on the trail, since leaving it in alpine terrain is dangerous and penalized.
