  • Decades of history, lottery-entry, high-altitude prestige
  • Long-established branded cycling endurance event with its own identity

If you like Cape Epic or Unbound Gravel, you'll like this one.

Pack this

  • MTB with fresh tires, sealant topped up, spare tubes + CO2
  • Hydration pack 2L + 2 bottles with electrolyte mix
  • 2500+ kcal in gels, bars, chews for 8-12hr effort
  • Sun protection: SPF 50, lip balm, clear+tinted lenses

What you should know

  • Start line sits at 10,200ft (3100m) — arrive several days early to acclimatize and pace the early climbs conservatively.
  • Columbine turnaround tops 12,400ft; August weather can flip from sun to hail or snow within minutes up high.
  • Strict intermediate cutoffs at Twin Lakes out, Columbine, and Twin Lakes in — know your splits or get pulled.
  • Mandatory helmet at all times; race number plate must be mounted visibly on the front of the bike.
  • Crew access is limited to designated aid stations — brief crew on parking, road closures, and cutoff windows.
