Why this race

  • Rotterdam Marathon is a World Athletics Platinum Label road race
  • One of the fastest marathon courses in the world, with multiple world records set/attempted here
  • Flagship Dutch marathon with decades of history and elite international fields

If you like Valencia Marathon or Berlin Marathon, you'll like this one.

Pack this

  • Lightweight rain shell or disposable poncho for the start
  • Two gels per 45 min + small flask with electrolyte mix
  • Body Glide / anti-chafe stick for nipples, underarms, inner thighs
  • Bib, safety pins, and timing chip checked the night before
  • Throwaway long-sleeve for the Coolsingel start corral

What you should know

  • Flat, fast course — bank a steady pace early rather than surging; the Erasmusbrug around 4 km is the only real climb.
  • Official aid stations roughly every 5 km serve water, sports drink, and later bananas — practice grabbing on the move.
  • Cool 11°C with rain risk means start slightly chilly; avoid overdressing as you'll warm up by km 5.
  • Bib pickup is at the Marathon Expo in Ahoy on the days before — no race-morning collection, bring photo ID.
  • Course closes progressively at roughly a 6-hour finish pace; trail the back and you'll be moved to the sidewalk.
