Why this race

  • La Marmotte is one of the most iconic European gran fondos, decades of history
  • Classic Alpine route over Glandon/Télégraphe/Galibier/Alpe d'Huez
  • Globally recognized bucket-list event in amateur road cycling

If you like Maratona dles Dolomites or Étape du Tour, you'll like this one.

Pack this

  • Inspected road bike with compact gearing (34x32 or easier)
  • Two 750ml bottles + electrolyte tabs and 6-8 energy gels
  • Helmet, sunglasses, fingerless gloves, and SPF 50 sunscreen
  • Light packable rain shell and arm warmers for Galibier descent
  • Spare tubes, CO2/mini pump, multitool, and ID + signed start bib

What you should know

  • Route tackles Glandon, Télégraphe, Galibier (2645m) and Alpe d'Huez — pace conservatively on the opening climb.
  • Glandon descent is traditionally neutralized; follow marshals as timing is paused and racing it gets you removed.
  • Expect cold air and wind at Galibier summit even on sunny days — pack a shell for the long descent.
  • Strict time cutoffs apply at intermediate checkpoints; missing one means course removal by the broom wagon.
  • Feed stations sit ~30-40km apart; carry your own fuel and top up bottles at every stop in the heat.
