Pack this

  • Waterproof jacket with hood plus warm mid-layer for high passes
  • Headlamp with spare batteries, whistle and foldable 150ml cup
  • Two 500ml soft flasks + electrolyte tabs and 8 stages of gels/bars
  • Trail shoes with aggressive lugs plus a second dry pair for camp
  • Loaded GPS watch/phone with all 8 stage tracks and paper map backup

What you should know

  • Eight consecutive stages, 232km and +16,000m: pace conservatively, day one attrition is mostly from going too hard.
  • Route crosses passes above 2,500m in Spain, France and Andorra; carry ID/passport and travel insurance.
  • Mandatory gear checks are run at stage starts; missing jacket, headlamp, whistle or cup can mean a penalty or DNS.
  • High-mountain weather flips fast: afternoon storms, hail and cold wind are likely even in summer.
  • Each stage has its own cutoff and semi-autonomous aid; only your daily drop bag is moved to the next camp.
