Pack this

  • Light long-sleeve layer or throwaway top for a cool, damp January start
  • Water-resistant cap or light shell in case of SF fog or drizzle
  • One 500ml soft flask plus a gel for the 15K if you run over 75 minutes
  • Bib, safety pins and photo ID for packet pickup
  • Warm dry layer and socks for after the finish while you enjoy the chocolate

What you should know

  • Golden Gate Park roads can be rolling, so pace conservatively on early climbs and save effort for the back half.
  • January mornings in San Francisco are often foggy and chilly, so dress in layers you can shed as you warm up.
  • Check the official event guide for packet pickup times, start corrals and any time limits for each distance.
  • Use the course aid stations rather than carrying much fluid, especially for the 5K and 10K.
  • Stay to the marked course and follow marshal directions, as park roads may reopen to traffic after the final runners.
