Why this race

  • Long-running Gran Canaria ultra trail with its own identity, held since the early 2000s
  • The 125km Classic is part of the World Trail Majors circuit and draws elite international fields
  • Not under UTMB licensing, so it counts as a classic ultra
  • Well known in the global trail running calendar as a major early-season race

If you like Lavaredo Ultra Trail or Western States 100, you'll like this one.

Pack this

  • Headlamp plus spare batteries for night start and summit sections
  • Waterproof jacket with hood and thermal layer for cold Roque Nublo heights
  • Reusable cup and 1L+ soft flasks with electrolyte tabs
  • Gels or bars every 30-45 min, plus salty real food for long distances
  • Trail shoes with aggressive grip, poles, and whistle plus emergency blanket

What you should know

  • Check the official mandatory gear list for your distance; kit checks can happen at bib pickup and on course.
  • The Classic starts at night from Las Canteras Beach, so expect hours of headlamp running on rocky ground.
  • Temperatures swing from mild at the coast to near freezing at altitude near Roque Nublo (~1,800m) at night.
  • Long descents on loose volcanic rock and steep cobbled paths are technical; save your quads and use poles carefully.
  • Respect checkpoint cutoffs and drop-bag rules published by organizers; aid stations are cupless, so carry your own.
