Why this race

  • Iconic La Palma ultra with its own identity, outside UTMB licensing
  • Historically a Skyrunner World Series flagship that draws elite international fields (Kilian Jornet, etc.)
  • Decade-plus history, multi-distance festival including VK

If you like Zegama-Aizkorri or Lavaredo Ultra Trail, you'll like this one.

Pack this

  • Headlamp with spare batteries for the pre-dawn ultra start
  • Lightweight windproof jacket for exposed volcanic ridges near 2,400m
  • Two 500ml soft flasks + electrolyte tabs for long, hot, shadeless stretches
  • Sunscreen, cap and sunglasses for strong high-altitude sun
  • Collapsible cup, whistle and survival blanket

What you should know

  • Check the official mandatory gear list for your distance; kit checks may happen at bib pickup or on course.
  • The ultra climbs from sea level to around 2,400m, so expect thinner air and big temperature swings.
  • Loose volcanic gravel makes the long descents technical; save your quads and look at gaiters.
  • Ridge sections are exposed with little shade; at 22°C you still need to drink and take salt regularly.
  • Check intermediate cutoffs and drop-bag rules in the race guide before race day; plan your pacing to beat them.
