Ultra Fiord

Base Camp Río Serrano · Puerto Natales, Chile

About

Sine its origin, Ultra Fiord® surprised the trail running world with its trails in one of the most remote and wild zones throughout Patagonia. A few of the most iconic images have been of the high-mountain passes, the glacier crossings, the pristine forests, and the views towards and fjords and mountains in Torres del Paine National Park.

Pack this

  • Fully taped waterproof jacket with hood plus waterproof overtrousers
  • Thermal base layer, warm hat and windproof gloves for exposed ridges
  • Headlamp with spare batteries, whistle, foil blanket and reusable cup
  • 1.5L water capacity plus gels or bars for roughly 250 kcal per hour
  • Grippy lugged trail shoes and poles for steep, muddy climbs

What you should know

  • Patagonian wind can make 14°C feel near freezing; weather can change within minutes on exposed sections.
  • Expect bog, river crossings and loose steep descents; wet feet are likely, so plan blister prevention.
  • Check the official mandatory gear list and cutoff times in the race briefing; gear checks may happen at any point.
  • Aid stations are spread out across remote terrain, so carry enough water and food to get between them.
  • Follow course markings closely in low visibility and tell a marshal if you drop out, so nobody starts a search.
