Why this race

  • Copper Canyon Ultra founded by Micah True (Caballo Blanco), made famous by 'Born to Run'
  • Long-established race in Urique with Rarámuri participation and its own identity
  • Recognized worldwide in ultrarunning culture, not part of the UTMB system

If you like Western States 100 or Leadville Trail 100, you'll like this one.

Pack this

  • Hydration vest with 1.5L+ capacity plus electrolyte tabs or salt caps
  • Wide-brim cap, sunglasses and SPF 50 sunscreen for exposed canyon trails
  • Headlamp with spare batteries for pre-dawn starts or 80K/160K night sections
  • Gels or real food every 30-45 min; carry extra between remote aid stations
  • Trail shoes with solid grip for rocky, dusty descents plus gaiters

What you should know

  • Urique sits at the canyon bottom, so expect big climbs and steep, technical descents on loose rock.
  • Canyon floor heat can climb well above 25°C by midday; start hydrating early and slow down in the heat.
  • Getting to Urique takes a long mountain road trip; plan to arrive days early for bib pickup and to acclimatize.
  • Aid stations can be far apart in remote terrain; check official cutoffs and drop-bag rules before race day.
  • Mobile signal is limited in the canyons, so carry a whistle, ID and emergency contact details.
