Why this race

  • World's oldest 100-mile trail race, since 1974
  • Iconic globally-followed ultra with its own identity outside UTMB
  • Considered one of the pinnacle ultras alongside UTMB and Comrades

If you like UTMB Mont-Blanc or Comrades Marathon, you'll like this one.

Pack this

  • Handheld bottle + 2L hydration vest with electrolyte tabs
  • Headlamp + spare batteries (mandatory for night running)
  • Sun protection: cap, sunglasses, SPF 50, arm coolers
  • Ice bandana / buff for canyon heat + blister kit
  • Labeled drop bags for Robinson, Foresthill, and Rucky Chucky

What you should know

  • 30-hour overall cutoff; intermediate cutoffs are strict — miss one and you're pulled from the course.
  • Canyons between Robinson Flat and Foresthill regularly exceed 40°C; pre-cool and use ice at every aid station.
  • Pacers allowed from Foresthill (mile 62) onward; crew access only at designated aid stations.
  • Rucky Chucky river crossing at mile 78 — depending on flow it's wade or raft; dry shoes await in drop bag.
  • Start altitude ~1900m with Escarpment climb in first 4 miles; acclimatize and don't blow up early.
