Why this race

  • Barcelona Marathon is a World Athletics Elite/Gold Label road race
  • Decades of history and Zurich is the long-time title sponsor
  • One of Europe's largest marathons, with a big international field

If you like Valencia Marathon or Paris Marathon, you'll like this one.

Pack this

  • Gels or chews for every 30-40 min after the first hour, about 6 total
  • Throwaway long-sleeve layer for the cool early-morning start corral
  • Anti-chafe balm for feet, thighs and underarms, plus nipple guards
  • Sunglasses and a light cap, since the March sun can feel warm by midday
  • Photo ID and bib confirmation for expo pickup, plus safety pins

What you should know

  • Bibs are usually collected at the pre-race expo. Check the dates, as race-morning pickup may not be offered.
  • Mild 14°C weather suits a fast time, but drink at aid stations every 5 km rather than waiting for thirst.
  • The course follows city streets with some gentle climbs. Hold back early to save energy for the finish.
  • Roads reopen in stages behind the official time limit. Check the published cutoff and pace yourself to stay ahead of it.
  • Get to Passeig de Gràcia early and know your corral. Public transport is the easiest way in because roads close nearby.
